Linda is holding Bear, a Long Earred Owl
Linda is holding Bear, a Long-eared Owl. In this photo, he only has a tuft of feathers on one side of his head, which many people wrongly believe is actually an ear. As with all owls, his ears are found in holes on both sides of his skull, underneath the feathers.

Another photo of Bear, the Long Earred Owl
Another photo of Bear, a Long-eared Owl. Long-eared Owls are quite small. But notice how Linda holds the sharp talons so as not to have them puncture her skin.

Another photo of Bear, a Long-eared Owl. This was taken on Christmas Day, 2007, and you can see that he now has both feather tufts on his head. Handsome, isn't he?
